I am a sporting instructor by trade. I have certification at the highest level. I have to be honest here and say that I have absolute faith in the process. I have been in too many lessons where magic has happened to think otherwise. Both as student and instructor. So...
I'll tell you all right now. As I have told all my intermediate and above students. If you have spent a good amount of time on the track you know how to do these things. Talent aside, there is no mystery. The magic is in applying the most effective technique in the most effective place, with the most effective amount of force. The way my review from Orion was worded gave me absolute faith that all of it was within my reach. There's no secret. Just good planning and the effort to execute it.
am going to tell you before I go into this that once I reach the point that I had at Watkins Glen Classic Boot in the Lotus 79 my lap is pretty well locked. I will get quicker to the tune of a few tenths an hour. But my progression is never leaps and bounds after I've reached *that* point. The old point where I used to settle, but will never settle again.
The lap I sent in was a clean lap and I was happy with it. It produced this time:
1:34.734
After reading my review I loaded my trusty set. The one I used for the lap I sent to Orion. It was suggested that I use a setup from their site but I wanted to see what I could do in something familiar. I remember someone telling me at the karting track once, "You're not going quickly if you're not spinning." Well... I was spinning alright. Right out of the gate I tried to apply everything I read. Whoa. There was a lot to work on. My first completed lap produced this time.
1:34.202
I'd been driving that set for days and had made that much time in three hours of practice. Wow. I set out again and quickly decided that I was asking too much of the setup in places. The car would not drive easily in the manner suggested by Orion. I loaded the set suggested. My next two times laps were:
1:33.873
1:33.509
Now, don't get me wrong. These are sloppy laps. I'm all over the place. I'm getting closer to some of the suggestions being made and completely forgetting others that I read. I go back out:
1:33.014
1:32.966
Altogether I did 9 laps after reading my Orion Basic Lap Review. I know you don't know me, but I do. I simply don't progress like that without some serious revelation. Not only that, but I'm still experimenting with this type of lap. I'm all over the place. I'm stinkin' up the joint. There is still a lot of work to be done on my lap there, but I have no doubt I will do 31s. And soon. And smooth.
As I have stated, I am a professional instructor. In my industry,as well as many others, we have a set of core concepts that help us make decisions in the field. These include creating a safe and fun environment, creating trust, and tailoring the experience to the level of the student and the package ordered with a focus on success. Results. Orion has nailed it in the Basic Lap Review.
In this, Orion's budget package, I got more than I expected and see evidence of excellent teaching skills. I've just gone back and reread the review and noticed some things that I missed on the track. It is a lot to take in all at once. The language of the instruction is perfectly worded to imply all the right things to get me operating at a higher level than I have previously.
I am entirely happy with my lap review from Orion racing and recommend highly that, if you are looking to improve your race, this is an excellent avenue to explore. I know I will be a customer again.

I can't tell you how grateful I am for the time you spent with me online at VIR. Even though it has been only one day since our track session, the things that we talked about are already starting to pay off in lower lap times. While I still struggle at "HogPen", the tools that you shared with me have given me the confidence to master that section of the track. My laps without incident are increasing and my lap times are dropping! I am so glad that I spent the money on your service and I know that I will return for not only refresher courses but also to seek guidance on tackling new challenges. Thanks again!!

Thank you so much for the session. It was great and really in that short span of time, I became quite comfortable with the Brands Hatch track enough to be alot closer to other cars and alot more comfortable going around the track. I think my PB on the track is now down just a tick under 1:23 so that is about a 1.5s or so improvement applying what the session taught me.
